| *JOHN PEAT -- (Karla Kitamura x Arabian Magic) (Clothed in Glory) Sev. 6” fl. 22” sc. M. This is one of the most important breaks of my hybridizing career, in terms of both the flower and overall plant habit. The flowers begin the season as a rich burgundy, with the color softening as the season progresses. The flowers also have a lighter watermark and a green throat. The petals are surrounded by a very heavy gold edge, which can approach 1/2”. The scapes begin branching while still within the foliage. Sometimes the branches themselves branch with the typical scapes having 4 laterals plus top branching, for a bud count of 40 or more. The large, vigorous plants are also immediate rebloomers, with recurrent scapes appearing before the first blooms open. In Florida, established clumps bloom non-stop from May until September. This has also been a magnificent parent, and grows beautifully from Florida to Canada. It is rare to have so many exceptional qualities in one plant. Truly extraordinary! |
