| *LADY BETTY FRETZ -- (Mardi Gras Ball x Only Believe). Sev. 6” fl., 26” sc., M. 25-35 buds. Lady Betty Fretz has been a winner since it first bloomed. Its clear light ivory to white petal self sets off the bold red eye and picotee. Adding to the flower’s impact is a second, heavy gold edge, and a beautiful green throat. The flower is the epitome of refinement. To the best of my knowledge, it holds the record for a daylily sold at auction, going for $4,200 at the Canadian-American Daylily Meeting in Niagara Falls. The delightful and effervescent Betty Fretz finally won the auction. The flowers are a critical break in eyed/edged cultivars, and this flower is sure to have an important impact on future generations of daylilies. |
